The night is far spent, the day is at hand;

cast away the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed

but glorify God because of the name. For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God;

if it begins with us, how will it end for those who fail to obey

the Gospel of God?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not rely on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him

and he will make straight your paths.

O Most High, when I begin to fear,

in you will I trust. 

(Psalm 56: 4) 

In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

All things came to be through him,

and without him nothing came to be.

What came to be through him was life,

and this life was the light of the human race;

the light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness has not overcome it.

(John 1: 1-5)

Jesus, you are the Light shining in our darkness

and the darkness cannot overcome you.

Dwell in us, we pray, that we might be light bearers

for your name's sake

and for the good of all those whom we meet.
