Artist Commentary: This is an older painting I made in the early 1980's. It now is in the collection of Mount Angel Benedictine Abbey, Oregon. St. Jean Vianney, the humble Curé of Ars, is the patron saint of parish priests. So effective was he in the conversion of souls through his sacramental ministry, that Satan assaulted him spiritually and bodily, declaring at one point that if there were four such priests in the world, he (Satan) would be defeated.
