Artist's commentary:
Joseph, Mary, and the Child Jesus are fleeing from their homeland in response to the message of an angel. They have been instructed to go to Egypt, which is the land of Israel's bondage, the land of captivity! As they flee, it seems that death and darkness are all around, yet the Red Sea of adversity will part before them, little by little, step by step, as they make their way in obedience and trust.
