Artist Commentary: This painting was commissioned in the 1980s by Mount Angel Benedictine Abbey in Oregon. In the abbey's collection are a number of my works. I based this painting on the oldest known icon of Christ, a sixth century "Christ Pantocrator" in St. Catherine's monastery, Sinai.
